What exactly is "The Blessed Fellowship of the Blazing Phoenix" all about?
“The Phoenix Philosophy”
The fundamentals of “The Phoenix Philosophy” are to practice benign tolerance toward all living creatures, to respect their beliefs, and to do all in our power to do no intentional harm to our fellow human beings. We shall also further strive to study different aspects of various religious systems in an effort to understand and accept the finer points of all of them.
We accept and understand the basic fact that it was, in fact, the Supreme Being who created Humanity, and not vice-versa. To that end, we do not express the arrogant belief shared by most religions that any one particular interpretation of the Supreme Being is the only correct interpretation.
We are also aware that our willingness to accept, or at least tolerate, the tenets of many different belief systems will not make us particularly popular among those “limited thinkers” whose own religious beliefs fall within the confines of what might be considered the more “mainstream” organized religions. We fully understand that, because of this acceptance, we will be considered “strange”, “unusual”, or “foreign”.
We further accept and promote the fact that all human beings are endowed by the Supreme Being with inherent abilities which they have, over many years, lost touch with the ability to use. These abilities, which have, or time, been systematically repressed, include the ability of each individual to tap into the amazing powers contained within our minds, and our bodies.
These abilities, once popular among the leaders of their social groups, have been vilified by successive leaders; who were unable to make use of their own natural abilities. To that end, those studying and using these abilities were branded as being “evil”. Today, for the most part, anyone who tries to study these practices is also considered to be “strange”, “unusual”, or “foreign”.
The development of these abilities is also referred to as studying or practicing the Magickal Arts. As we previously stated, we support this study and practice, and this is one of the main reasons why we have founded and established this Fellowship. Contrary to “popular” belief, this does not mean that we are “bad”, or “evil”.
We acknowledge that these abilities can be used for the support of evil, as well as for the support of good. Those who use their powers and abilities in support of evil are referred to, among other things, as “Sorcerers” and “Sorceresses”. Those who use their powers and abilities in support of good are called, among other things, “Wizards” and “Witches”.
We, of this Fellowship, have chosen to dedicate our talents and powers and abilities to work in support of good. While we do not subscribe to any one particular religion, we choose to follow the Wiccan Rede: “As ye do no harm, do what thou will”.
“What’s in a Name?”
In the case of this particular organization…quite a bit, actually. “The Blessed Fellowship of THE BLAZING PHOENIX” is, in reality, an acronym for “The Blessed Fellowship of Theologians Humanely Exhibiting Benevolent and Logical Acceptance of Zealous Interest in the Normal Gathering of Pantheistic Humans Openly Expressing a Natural Interest in Xenophilia”.
“Xenophilia?”
Xenophiles are people who love unusual, strange or otherwise atypical or foreign things. As you can obviously see, we support a great many concepts that are far from being what most people would call “mainstream”. They are far from being what might be considered a “politically correct” way of thinking, or of viewing the world. Still the members of this Fellowship favour the strange, the unusual, and the foreign. We practice xenophilia because we love the foreign practices and customs that we’ve expressed, herein. Since you’ve read this far, yourself, you’re apparently a xenophile, too; and we welcome you into our Fellowship.
“Why a Phoenix?”
In the classical antiquity of many cultures all over the world, the Phoenix is a fabulous bird associated with various forms of Worship. As large as an eagle, it has brilliant scarlet and gold plumage and a melodious cry. Only one Phoenix exists at a time, and each lives for no less than 500 years. As its end approaches, it builds a nest of aromatic boughs and spices, sets it on fire, and is consumed in the flames.
From the pyre, a new Phoenix rises from the ashes, reborn; and seals its predecessor's ashes in an egg of myrrh. The Phoenix symbolizes immortality and rebirth. Its fiery self-elected demise, its rise from the ashes, and its rebirth are symbolic of new hope.
About 500 years ago, Magickal Practitioners were forced into hiding to avoid public condemnation. Those captured and convicted were burned for their beliefs. Now, a half a century later, we are removing the ashes of our progenators from their symbollic "egg of Myyrrh"; celebrating their beliefs, and helping Magickal Societies to once again rise from the ashes.
This is why our Fellowship is symbolized by the Phoenix. It expresses our hope that, through our efforts, both religious tolerance and the practice, and eventual acceptance, of the Magickal Arts will first be reborn, and then will flourish.
"...a bird was born. His flight was like the flashing of light, his plumage was beauteous and his song ravishing..."
